The cumulative shipment of 5g mobile phones exceeded 77 million, and three basic telecom enterprises had built and opened more than 400000 5g base stations nationwide. The rapid development of 5g network construction can better meet the differentiated living needs of the broad masses of people and drive the rapid growth of information consumption.

At the 2020 (19th) China Internet Conference held a few days ago, Liu Liehong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of industry and information technology, said that it was necessary to accelerate the construction of 5g networks and deepen the construction and sharing of telecommunications infrastructure. At the same time, accelerate the deployment of 5g applications and promote the innovation of "5g +" integrated applications.

How many 5g users are there? Wen Ku, director of the information and Communication Development Department of the Ministry of industry and information technology and spokesman, revealed a few days ago that "we have reported a more convincing number of 5g users. By the end of June, there were 66 million 5g terminals connected to the Internet, and with the upgrading of ordinary people's mobile phones, the number is still rising month by month.".

The number of users ranks first in the world

Li Zhen, an industrial research analyst at the Innovation Research Institute of Beijing University Science and Technology Park, said that at present, the number of 5g base stations and users in China are the first in the world. The falling price of 5g terminals has reduced the cost of users accessing 5g networks, and promoted the rapid growth of 5g users.

The development of 5g users in China has entered the fast lane. According to the latest data released by the three major operators, in June 2020, China Mobile's 5g package users reached 70.199 million, with a monthly increase of 14.59 million; China Telecom 5g package users reached 37.84 million, with a monthly increase of 7.79 million; China Unicom said that it would not release it temporarily because of different statistical standards.

However, some consumers also reported that the three major operators had irregular behaviors in order to increase the number of 5g package users. In this regard, Wen Ku said that in order to better promote the development of 5g, in the market competition among operating enterprises, the Ministry of industry and information technology hopes to create a fair and dynamic market competition pattern and never interfere with the specific pricing of enterprises. However, some operators may have forced and other irregularities in some areas when promoting users to use 5g packages. In order to protect the rights and interests of users, the Ministry of industry and information technology has formulated a series of rules and regulations, stipulating that operators cannot open any packages to users without the consent of users.

"In the next step, local communications administrations will pay close attention to the situation in various provinces and regions, strengthen supervision and inspection, and in particular, investigate and deal with violations of users' legitimate rights and interests such as upgrading user packages and bundling sales without users' consent according to law." Wen Ku said.

Wenku also introduced that at present, 178 5g mobile phone terminals have obtained network access licenses, and the cumulative shipment of 5g mobile phones has exceeded 77 million. It is understood that Huawei, vivo, Xiaomi and other enterprises have launched a number of 5g mobile phones in the current market. They have a rich choice of mobile phones, and the threshold has been significantly lowered. The share of 5g mobile phones in terminal sales is constantly increasing. It is expected that the shipment of 5g mobile phones will reach 180 million units this year.

Wen Ku said that at present, 5g mobile phones have both high-end phones of several thousand yuan and medium and low-end phones of more than 1000 yuan, which can better meet the differentiated living needs of the masses and drive the rapid growth of information consumption.

Network coverage accelerates extension

According to Wenku, recently, China has built and opened more than 15000 5g base stations on average every week. By the end of June, three basic telecom enterprises had built and opened more than 400000 5g base stations nationwide.

"2020 is the year of accelerating the construction of 5g networks in China. Although the speed of 5g network coverage has slowed down due to the epidemic, by the end of 2020, the main first tier cities in China will have completed the basic coverage of 5g networks." Zhang Yang, senior analyst of Zhongcheng think tank, said.

Wen Ku also said that it is necessary to promote basic telecom enterprises to seize the construction period and accelerate the construction of high-quality 5g networks covering the whole country with advanced technology and excellent quality with the goal of supporting independent networking mode. We will continue to support China Telecom and China Unicom to take the lead in building a 200m wide bandwidth and low-cost 5g network through joint construction and sharing. We will further promote the integration of advantageous resources of basic telecommunications enterprises, accelerate the construction of networks in major cities, and gradually extend coverage to key counties, towns and even some rural areas where conditions permit.

At the 2020 China Internet Conference, Dong Xin, general manager of China Mobile, introduced that it would strive to exceed the annual construction task of 5g base stations and ensure that cities above the prefecture level provide 5g services. Previously, China Mobile announced that it would build 300000 5g base stations by 2020. Li Zhengmao, general manager of China Telecom, also introduced that up to now, the total number of 5g base stations in China Telecom's entire network has exceeded 200000, and it is expected that more than 300000 5g base stations will be provided in service by the end of the third quarter of 2020.

In September last year, China Telecom and China Unicom announced to jointly build a 5g access network and jointly promote the deployment of 5g networks. In May this year, China Mobile and China Radio and television announced that they would jointly invest in the construction of the golden band 5g wireless network of 700MHz at a ratio of 1:1.

The implementation of 5g co construction and sharing mechanism has promoted the rapid popularization of 5g and greatly reduced the cost. According to Zhang Quan, deputy general manager of China iron tower, as the frequency is higher, the station site is denser, and the power consumption is greater, the construction and operation cost of 5g will be two to four times that of 4G. It is increasingly becoming the consensus of the industry to reduce costs through sharing. At present, 97% of the built 5g base stations are realized through sharing.

It is understood that at the beginning of this year, the three major operators decided to open more than 600000 5g base stations this year. Obviously, the current 5g network construction speed has exceeded expectations.

Wen Ku stressed that the policy dividend of local governments at all levels will be fully released, and governments at all levels will be encouraged to make full use of the policy toolbox of 5g power supply, construction, application, capital, etc. based on the local industrial advantages and digital transformation needs, so as to rapidly turn 5g development into a key driving force to support high-quality economic development.

Exploration and deepening of fusion application

Liu Liehong said that it is necessary to promote "5g +" integration and application innovation, deeply implement the industrial Internet innovation and development strategy, accelerate the deep integration of cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence and the real economy, and support the digital transformation of the industry.

"5g applications are not only the consumer Internet, but also the application of the industrialization of the Internet of things, including a large number of industrial applications such as the Internet of vehicles, the Internet of things, and industrial manufacturing. These industrial Internet applications will be automatically integrated to form a new ecology." Zhang Yang said.

At the 2020 China Internet Conference, Tang Daosheng, senior executive vice president of Tencent, believed that the future network will show the characteristics of multi network overlay and dynamic connection. For example, the vehicle road collaboration of intelligent connected vehicles requires the integration of 5g and Internet of things. Vehicles can identify the position and speed of vehicles and pedestrians through on-board sensors, roadside cameras and other Internet of things facilities; Through the millisecond transmission of 5g network, complete the information transmission between vehicles and roads, and improve the operation efficiency and safety of vehicles.

According to Dong Xin, China Mobile will accelerate the construction and promotion of content, rights, 5g messages, mobile authentication and other products, promote the layout of smart home products such as intelligent networking and home security, create a new smart city core platform, and promote the landing of 100 5g demonstration applications in 15 industries. Li Zhengmao said that China Telecom is continuously strengthening and promoting the innovation of 5g independent networking technology in the field of cloud network integration, and providing end-to-end and customizable information industry applications for industrial Internet, smart city and media live broadcast. Liang Baojun, deputy general manager of China Unicom, also said that the 5g integration application needs to be further explored and deepened by relevant enterprises. At present, China Unicom has nearly 1000 upstream, middle and downstream ecological partners.

Dong Xin frankly said that at present, the performance of 5g still faces "three major difficulties" such as the sharp rise in construction and operation costs, the lack of scientific and technological innovation coordination capacity, and the establishment of industrial integration system. It needs cross-border cooperation, breakthroughs in innovation paradigms, and full release of network innovation efficiency.
